Visioneering 2011
Greetings, We would like to invite all friends, current students, or alumni of the Lyle School of Engineering, to participate in Visioneering 2010 as a Team Mentor and Judge during our event on February 26, 2011.
Visioneering is an annual event hosted on the campus of SMU and sponsored by the Lyle School of Engineering, Texas Instruments, Lockheed Martin, Fluor Corp., Raytheon and the The Pettinger Foundation. It is a wonderful, exciting half-day event that introduces middle school students to engineering. But it can't happen without volunteer engineers like you.
Many of these students have never met an engineer and have no idea about the rewards offered by a career in an engineering field. It is a great way to make a difference in the life of a young student.
As a volunteer Team Mentor and Judge, you will:
- Mentor a team of 7-10 students and their teacher through the conceptual design process.
- Assist students in developing a short oral presentation of their ideas to the judges.
- Serve as a mentor to the students and talk about your engineering experiences.
- Judge other team's designs based on how well the design fits the competition's criteria.
Check out our Web site for more information about Visioneering 2011.
We are seeking 100 volunteer mentors who work in the field of engineering to serve as mentors to middle school students from grades 6 - 8.
Your assistance in forwarding this request to any colleagues that you think might be interested in helping at the event, or professional engineering societies to which you belong, would be greatly appreciated.
We look forward to your support and participation in this very exciting educational event.
Sincerely,
The Visioneering Team

The Girl Scouts of America
Girl Scouts of the USA is the world's preeminent organization dedicated solely to girls-all girls-where, in an accepting and nurturing environment, girls build character and skills for success in the real world. In partnership with committed adult volunteers, girls develop qualities that will serve them all their lives, like leadership, strong values, social conscience, and conviction about their own potential and self-worth.
It is safe to say that most of you are familiar with the organization. The Girl Scouts of America have been a strong in our lives and in the lives of our wives, and our daughters.
The Girl Scouts of America need your help. There are four Girl Scout camps in the DFW Area that are in need of various site improvements and they have contacted The Dallas Branch of ASCE for assistance.
Please review the attached documents that highlight some of the needs of the DFW area Girl Scout Camps. If you have the ability to assist in the planning or construction of these repairs, please contact me. Click here for more details.
