Mary Elizabeth “Cissy” Elko Sylo, P.E.

Cissy is President of CES Consulting Group in Carrollton TX. The main focus of her projects includes construction management, transportation, and municipal services.

Cissy has been active in the ASCE Dallas Branch, serving in many positions from Scholarship Chair to President. Cissy has also been active in ITE and TexITE serving both as President of the Greater Dallas Branch and currently on the ITE Executive Board of the Public Agency Council. Cissy volunteers for the IEEE Future City Competition each year. Cissy is also active in her church teaching religious education for over twenty years.

Mrs. Sylo received her BS and ME in Civil Engineering from The University of Texas at Arlington. She is a member of Chi Epsilon and Tau Beta Phi Honor Societies. She was also inducted in the UTA Civil Engineering Hall of Fame. While at UTA, Cissy was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority and Little Sister to Phi Kappa Alpha Fraternity.

Cissy grew up in Memphis Tennessee. When is not working, she loves to spend time volunteering, mentoring students and young professionals, her homeowners association, and caring for the elderly. Christmas is her favorite holiday. Most rooms in the house have a decoration theme and the Christmas dinner party is a tradition few will miss! Cissy and Jerry are married and have three children: Brock, Spencer and Morgan. The family enjoys a trip to Colorado every summer rafting, hiking, horseback riding and biking.

Anu Kancherla, P.E.

Anu Kancherla is a Project Engineer in the Transportation Department at Jacobs Engineering Group. She has worked on large-scale Transportation and Transit projects including complex multi-level interchanges and design build projects/proposals for various state agencies across the country. Her technical expertise includes highway design, traffic analysis, rail road design, and drainage design for the construction and maintenance projects.

Prior to joining the consulting industry, Anu worked as an Assistant Researcher at the Texas Transportation Institute (TTI) and performed research sponsored by TxDOT and Federal Highway Administration. Her research work at TTI resulted in two technical publications. Anu completed Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University at College Station and Bachelor of Science from India. Anu is a member of the Phi Kappa Phi and received scholarship for academic excellence at the Texas A&M University and Gold Medal from the Vasavi Engineering College, Osmania University, India for the best academic performance among all undergraduate engineering majors. Anu is a licensed professional engineer in the states of Texas and Arizona.

Anu has been involved with ASCE for around 9 years and is currently the chairperson of the ASCE Dallas Construction Group. Anu has also been actively involved with other professional organizations such as Women’s Transportation Seminar and the Institute of Transportation Engineers in various capacities. She is looking forward to many years of service with ASCE. In her free time, Anu enjoys visiting different places, reading both fiction and non-fiction and watching sports.

Biography

Rachel R. Hayden, P.E., is president of Hayden Consultants, Inc., which she founded as a sole proprietor in March 2000. Hayden Consultants provides civil, transportation and traffic engineering services as well as surveying and construction management for projects ranging from small site development projects to complex highways and transit facilities. Rachel is at the forefront of sustainable design for infrastructure projects. She is an appointed member of the Sustainable Public Right-of-Way (SPROW) committee through the North Central Texas Council of Governments, representing the interests of transportation engineers on the panel. The SPROW committee compiles the best practices for sustainable design within public rights-of-way, placing the group at the leading edge of research and innovation for greener communities in North Texas. Rachel served as ASCE Dallas Branch President from 2009-2010, and is currently serving as President of the Dallas Council of Engineering Companies (2011). She is active in several other professional organizations, including the Women’s Transportation Seminar and Entrepreneurial Women Presidents.

Visioneering 2011 Greetings, We would like to invite all friends, current students, or alumni of the Lyle School of Engineering, to participate in Visioneering 2010 as a Team Mentor and Judge during our event on February 26, 2011. Visioneering is an annual event hosted on the campus of SMU and sponsored by the Lyle School of Engineering, Texas Instruments, Lockheed Martin, Fluor Corp., Raytheon and the The Pettinger Foundation. It is a wonderful, exciting half-day event that introduces middle school students to engineering. But it can't happen without volunteer engineers like you. Many of these students have never met an engineer and have no idea about the rewards offered by a career in an engineering field. It is a great way to make a difference in the life of a young student. As a volunteer Team Mentor and Judge, you will: Mentor a team of 7-10 students and their teacher through the conceptual design process. About G. B. Mann In the early 90s when David Schnurbusch was the Branch president, the Branch Scholarship Fund was established. In 1993, the Fund received a large boost from Mr. Mann when he contributed a large sum of his retirement investments to the Fund. Numerous Dallas area high school and college students have benefited from his large and kind endowment. He did not want any publicity for this contribution. An ASCE Past President and Life Member, George Boley Mann, received a degree in Civil Engineering from SMU. During WWII he worked in Ordinance Department at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. He retired from Texas Department of Transportation after 34 years of service. He was active in ASCE and NSPE. He contributed to the construction of numerous Texas highways. He mentored many young engineers. G. B.
