March 2009 President's Message

The year for our Branch is well underway.  We have had very successful meetings this year despite the economic down-turn spiral. Our last meeting was attended by over 300 members and we appreciate that support.  It is our members who define us as an organization.  I personally, am proud to be a part of this fine organization.

We had over 20 members represent us at the Future Cities Competition – sponsored by National Engineers Week – on January 24th at UT Arlington. Andrew Etchison, Anu Kancheria, Fadi Faraj, Gayle Hanson, Rachel Hayden, Jason Conklin, Junaid Malik, Jimmy George, Kerry Etchison, Kevin Shepard, Kristin Green, Lowell Seaton, Matt Ludwin, Matt Richardson, Najitha Bulathsinhala, Phillip Alcorn, Sean Merrell and the volunteer team organizer Saud Memon were among those who represented ASCE Dallas Branch.  Kudos to them all for a job well done.

Engineers Week awards luncheon was held at the Westin Galleria on February 19th where Elizabeth Metting was honored as the ASCE Engineer of the Year and Doug Chastain was honored as the Young Engineer of the Year.  Next time you meet Liz or Doug; remember to congratulate them. We are all proud of them both on this fine accomplishment.  Next month topic will be Dallas Cowboys Traffic Management Plan and I must tell you, no cheerleaders will be there, despite of what you might have heard.  We will look forward to seeing you all again next month.
