February President's Message

Celebrate National Engineers Week

February 14-20, 2010

This year I challenge you to do something to commemorate National Engineers Week. As engineers we often downplay what we do to make the world a better place, but this year I encourage you to take one week to celebrate our profession. How? Here are some ideas:

  • Participate in “Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day” on February 18, 2010           Even today fewer than 10% of engineers are women. Invite a girl or several girls to your office and show them what you do! Or volunteer to speak about engineering to a Girl Scout troop.
  • Volunteer to serve as a Future Cities judge on January 23, 2010                    Contact our Education Chair, Anu Kancherla (anu.kancherla@jacobs.com) for details
  • Volunteer to participate in E-Week activities at the Museum of Nature & Science   Contact our Education Chair, Anu Kancherla (anu.kancherla@jacobs.com) for details
  • Attend the E-Week Awards Luncheon on February 16, 2010, www.eweekluncheon.com for details.
  • Take your engineering staff to lunch or go out to lunch with co-workers to celebrate engineer’s week.
  • Ask your staff and/or co-workers an engineering-related trivia question each day during engineer’s week.
  • Create a banner to hang in your office during the week of February 14-20 to remind your staff to celebrate the week.
  • Serve coffee and dessert to show your appreciation to fellow engineers in your office.

These are just a few ideas to celebrate National Engineers Week; for more suggestions please visit www.eweek.org. Take the time to celebrate our profession, if not by volunteering then by enhancing your work environment by recognizing and celebrating your engineering co-workers and staff.

Please join us on February 1st when we will hear from Mr. Doug Janeway, City of Irving Project Team Leader about the Texas Stadium Demolition.
