October 2009 - President’s Message 

Next month, we will be inviting Mr. Wayne Klotz, PE, President of ASCE National to tell us about State of the National organization.  I am looking forward to his presentation and would encourage you to join us at the next meeting.  ASCE Texas Section Fall Meeting will be in Woodlands, Houston from Oct 28 - 31.  Support Texas Section of ASCE by attending that event.  You can get details on the meeting registration on our website.

For my last message as your President, I want to say THANK YOU  –  to all of our members as well as all of our board, committee chairs and volunteers who supported our organization.  You all are the life blood of our organization and I am grateful that I had the opportunity to serve you this past year.  I became interested in volunteering for ASCE some 10+ years back, mainly due to the influence of some of my mentors, who all encouraged me to get involved.  I was blessed to have great role models who provided guidance and support whenever it was needed. 

This month, we heard Mr. Steve Stagner with Texas Consulting Engineering Council (Tx CEC) talk about the importance of raising awareness about our profession – So my friends – I will leave you with the same message – To Get Involved.  Like Steve said “We want to be at the dinner table and not at the menu”. I believe in that statement whole heartedly. So, I encourage you to make your voices known this year.

Thanks again for allowing me to represent you this past year.  It was a great experience.  I am leaving the helm in very capable hands of our incumbent President, Ms. Rachel Hayden, PE.  I am confident that with your help, she will take our organization to the next level.
