YM Golf Tournament Racap

IMG_0480It was a perfect clear sunny day for golf on Monday, May 18, 2009. The golf tournament kicked off at 8am with 21 teams on Bear Creek’s West Course. Greeted with bagels and coffee, players signed in to goodie bags filled with coupons, snacks and a koozie and could purchase mulligan’s to increase money for scholarships. Players enjoyed the beautiful weather and meandered over to the Pavilion around 1:30 for a BBQ lunch. At the BBQ lunch, awards and trophies were presented to the 1st, 2nd and Last Place Teams. Photos of the event can be viewed here.

Winning the tournament with a 52 was Griffin Pipe Products’ team with players Jeff Davis, Steve Randall, Randy Green and Dave Davis. The 1st Place team won a round of golf for 2 at Bear Creek and a $25 Home Depot gift card for each player. We had a tie for second place with a score of 62 that was decided by a hole-playoff that went 4 holes before deciding Ronald A Roberts Associates’ team consisting of Nancy Geihl, Lorrie Gray, Ron Roberts and Dwight Packer took the honors.  2nd place went home with 4-$20 Dick’s Sporting Goods certificates.

Last place with a respectable 78 received a trophy, the “horse’s ass”. Scott Berman, Daniel Burnham, James Gossie and Scott Hubley are the four lucky ones to have this fabulous trophy now grace their office!

During the tournament a contest was held for closest to the pin and longest drive. Dave Davis from Griffin Pipe Products’ team was presented with a driver for the longest drive competition. The closest to the pin was Logan McWhorter from Pacheco Koch and he received a putter for his efforts.

A raffle was held at the close of the tournament. The raffle was a success and raised an additional $600 for scholarships by selling tickets and mulligan’s prior to the tournament shotgun start. The raffle included Callaway golf towels, Callaway golf balls, Nike golf balls, Blockbuster free rentals, Panda Express free meals, a Nike 3-wood, a golf bag, golf shirts, a $50 gift certificate to Sherlock’s and more.

This year’s 20th Annual D/FW ASCE Golf Tournament raised over $4,000 for scholarships for local students pursuing civil engineering. I think that is a great achievement during this economic time and our branches should be proud.

I would like to thank the sponsors, donations, and everyone that participated from both the Fort Worth and Dallas Branches. I would also like to thank the volunteers, Noopur Jain (HNTB), Alison Smith (HNTB) and Jason Conklin (HDR). Despite issues with weather the first time around, I think we were lucky to get such a beautiful day to enjoy the sunshine, play some golf with coworkers and friends, and raise of money to benefit the future of our profession.

Thank you,
