Main Speaker: Michael Smith, P.E. - U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

 Topic: US/Mexico Border Fence Project


Mr. Michael (Todd) Smith, P.E. is the Director of the Engineering & Construction Support Office, Fort Worth District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.  He is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Architectural Engineering and a licensed professional engineer in the State of Texas. 

He has worked for the Fort Worth District since 1987 except for a 4 month deployment to Kuwait 1991-92 during Operation Desert Shield and a 6 month deployment to Afghanistan in 2012 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  His first 14-years were spent managing construction projects in the North Texas Area Office, followed by 8 years of Project and Program Management experience and 3 years as the Chief, Engineering & Construction Division.  

Mr. Smith was awarded the Fort Worth District and the Southwestern Division Construction Management Excellence Awards in 2001 for delivering the $15 million Southwest Regional Laboratory to the Drug Enforcement Administration under budget and ahead of schedule.  He also led the Corps’ national team of over 500 employees in executing $1.6 billion in tactical infrastructure projects along the southwest international border for the Department of Homeland Security in support of the Secure Fence Act of 2005.  Todd lives in Aledo, Texas with his lovely wife who is an Employee Benefits Consultant and is blessed with two children, a 20-year old daughter who is a sophomore engineering student at Texas A&M University and a 15-year old son who is a freshman athlete in Aledo High School.
