Technical Seminar in April

Seminar Topic: Providing Engineering Solutions for Basic Water and Wastewater Needs in the Country of Bolivia

Many communities throughout the world struggle daily with basic quality of life issues; potable water, sanitation, roads, bridges, dams, electricity and other luxuries we take for granted. Engineers in Action (EIA) helps facilitate sustainable solutions to meet these urgent needs.

Come join us for a technical seminar presented by Dr. Ruben Mamani-Paco. Dr. Mamani-Paco will speak on the overall process and difficulties in providing engineering solutions for basic water and wastewater needs in a developing country such as Bolivia, and how EIA works with partner organizations like Engineers Without Borders and Rotary International to provide those solutions.  His presentation will also highlight how climate change is affecting Bolivian rural areas in terms of droughts and water availability (from Andes glaciers).

Speaker: Dr. Mamani-Paco is a Project Manager for EIA and a native Bolivian based in La Paz. His case studies of projects include construction of eco-latrines in Inca Catarapi, BO in partnership with EWB-Missouri, water wells in Konani BO with the Tulsa Southside Rotary Club, and a pilot research project to clean up mining waste water in Potosi BO using a ‘wetlands’ technique with the Center for Renewing Ecosystems and Watersheds (CREWS) at the School of Civil Engineering at the University of Oklahoma and Tomas Frias University in Potosi Bolivia.  Additional information on these projects and EIA can be found at www.engineersinaction.org
