Committee Reports 2009 - 2010

Younger Members

  • ASCE Blood Bowl: ASCE hosted a blood drive to celebrate the football bowl season. The school with the most donations had the February meeting decorated in their colors and their fight song playing before and after the monthly lunch meeting. This year, the champions were the Texas A&M Aggies. Due to the enthusiasm for the event, the Younger Member Group is planning on making this an annual event.
  • Annual DFW Rangers Game: This year, the Dallas branch organized the annual Rangers game with the Fort Worth Younger Members group. We had a great group of 16 people come out and we enjoyed a fajita tailgate before the game. It was a great networking event, and also a great game where the Rangers beat the L.A. Angels 6-2.
  • Top Golf Happy Hour: The Younger Member Group hosted a Top Golf Happy hour in conjunction with ITE. We had a great group of both young and not so young engineers. A $25 gift card to Top Golf was raffled off.
  • E-Week at the Museum

Scholarship

  • Contribution of $50,000.00 ($25,000.00 ASCE + $25,00.00 match) to UTA. Biggest contribution of the branch.
  • Awarded 4 scholarships to High School students in August 2010 who will be pursuing career in Civil Engineering.
  • A 30-40% increase in the number of applications received from past years.
  • A panel of 5 judges volunteered to review and select the candidates for scholarship.
  • All the scholarship winners were presented with many ASCE brand items thereby promoting ASCE within students.
